Junior Konner Scott led the Niles West boys swimming team by placing third in the 200-yard individual medley in 1 minute, 58.44 seconds and 100 freestyle in 47.68 Saturday at the 18-team Evanston Invitational.

He dropped 2.45 seconds off his season-best in the IM.

“Konner had a great meet,” Niles West coach Dan Vander Jeugdt said. “We’re swimming very hard. With the times we’re breaking and the amount and intensity of work that we put in over break, they’re really, really doing well with that. We usually come into this meet, and we’re usually three, four seconds slower. We’re just so sore and tired. And they’re swimming right at their (season-best) times.”

The Wolves placed 14th with 2,308 points in a field that was led by New Trier (3,415), Naperville North (3,152) and Neuqua Valley (3,128). But Vander Jeugdt believes they got a lot out being in the pool with top competition.

“It was fun being here,” he said. “It’s all about having them here, watching them swim, seeing swimmers here and competing.”

Junior Elliott Kerbel and Tim Binkley, sophomore Ryan Miller and Scott placed ninth in the 400 free relay (3:25.07) and 10th in the 200 medley relay (1:44.99). Binkley took 15th in the 100 backstroke (59.24).
