Loyd's 34 powers Niles West past Deerfield

Sophomore Jewell Loyd scored 34 points as the Niles West girls basketbqall team defeated host Deerfield 64-39 Saturday night in a Central Suburban League crossover game.

After closing the half with a 32-23 lead, Niles West (19-4) broke open the game with 21 points in the third quarter. The Wolves defense allowed Deerfield only seven points in the quarter to take a commanding 53-30 lead. Deerfield (4-15) netted 16 points in the second half.

Sophomore guard Jackie Gremley (10 points) and Jenny DiJohn (8) added to the Wolves’ scoring attack.
The Warriors were led by Kelly O’Connell (9), Liz Yucknut (7) and Kathleen Forrest (5).
