Freshmen Sylvan, Greer lead Deerfield past Niles North

Newcomers net 18 and 13 points in 65-43 victory

It was quite a welcome to Central Suburban League North conference basketball for Deerfield freshmen Margot Sylvan and Haley Greer Friday night.

Deerfield beat Niles North 65-43 in both teams' conference opener in Skokie as Sylvan scored 18 points on 8-for-17 shooting with two three-pointers and added four steals and two assists and the 5-7 Greer contributed 13 points, four assists, three rebounds and three steals  to lead the Warriors.

Kathryn Hoffman (10 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists), Emelia Karkazis (8 points, 5 rebounds) and Sarah Ginn (7 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals) also led Deerfield (3-4, 1-0 in CSL North), which outscored Niles North 15-5 in the third quarter and 13-4 in the fourth to extend its 37-34 halftime lead.

Jessica Bess also had two points and five steals for the winners, who overcame 19 turnovers by making 20 steals.

Niles North fell to 0-6.
