Behles, Quinn lead Evanston past Niles West

Senior captains Max Behles and Kevin Quinn led the Evanston boys swimming team past depleted Niles West 120-66 in a Central Suburban League South dual meet Friday night.

Both swimmers placed first in each of their two individual events and were part of the two winning relays.
Niles West only had nine swimmers in its lineup.

Behles (22.46) beat out Niles West’s Elliott Kerbel (23.61) and Tim Binkley (23.72) in the 50-yard freestyle. In the 100 free, Behles (49.08) finished ahead of Binkley (51.93) and Wildkits sophomore Wes Marberry (53.13).

Behles teamed with freshman Blake Morgan, junior Will Sparks and sophomore Mackenzie Miller (1:33.49) to win the 200 free relay. Binkley, junior standout Konner Scott, senior Ben Rees, and sophomore Ryan Miller (1:34.06) placed second in the relay ahead of Evanston’s team of Marberry, junior James Conroy, sophomore John McBratney, and sophomore Aaron Mohrenweiser (1:37.85). 

Behles, Quinn, Miller and senior Matt Wich dominated the 400 free relay (3:25.34). Evanston’s Mohrenweiser, Morgan, Sparks, and sophomore Hunter Wilson (3:35. 23) placed second, and Niles West’s Rees, senior Stu Topp, sophomore Will Lefler, and sophomore Matt Cossio (3:44.67) finished in third place.

Quinn (5:00.28) cruised to a win in the 500 free ahead of Sparks (5:17.24) and Cossio (5:44.94). Quinn (1:05.06) edged out Morgan (1:05.40) and West’s Miller (1:06.28) in the 100 breaststroke. He also won the 200 medley relay with Marberry, Wich, and Miller (1:43.72). Niles West’s Binkley, Kerbel, Miller, and sophomore Nick Giffen (1:47.42) finished second, and Evanston’s Wilson, Conroy, McBratney, and McKelvey Packard (1:51.29) took third.

Niles West’s Scott  handled the competition in the 100 backstroke (54.95). Evanston’s Marberry (58.61) and Wilson (1:00.43) finished second and third. Scott also won the 200 free (1:45.27). Wildkits Morgan (1:53.75) and McBratney (1:54.27) placed second and third, respectively.

In the 200 individual medley, Wich (2:04.96) finished first ahead of Niles West’s Miller (2:08.25) and teammate Sparks (2:13.20). 

Wich (55.16) also won the 100 yard butterfly, besting Kerbel (56.43) and Evanston’s Miller (58.66). 
Evanston senior Colin White (231.45) beat out Niles West’s Ryan Zimmer (194.80) and Dylan Lovering (173.70) in diving.
